Hey friends! I’ve missed you! Instead of explaining that life is busy and why I haven’t blogged, let’s just be together here now and move forward. What’s been going on around here? Well, the biggest thing is that I just got back from my second trip to Ecuador to help GPS-collar mountain tapirs through my work! It was an incredible experience and it’s hard to fully explain how meaningful the work is to me. I’m so lucky to be part of such important this project.
The collars allow us to track the tapirs and use that data to figure out what areas they roam in so we can recommend more protections for those areas. A secondary goal of our trip was to do some educational outreach in the local area and share the work we are doing with Ecuadorian school kiddos. This was such a fantastic experience and I’m so blessed to have met so many motivated, curious children during our visits!
It was a very successful expedition and we found five tapirs!! To put that into perspective, we caught three tapirs on the last expedition we went on and some previous trips have found as few as two, so we were thrilled to find five and get the all-important GPS collar on them and gained so much invaluable data from the samples we were able to collect. Needless to say, I’ve been riding on a high from the trip for weeks now.
I was home just in time for Christmas and my family made it a magical holiday despite the shortness of the festive season together.
Eric did an especially good job of catching me up on all the festivities and put up my tree while I was away. #swoon
Work has been busy and I’ve transitioned a bit from running to yoga. It’s just so nice to stay inside in the winter and the slower pace that yoga has to offer has given me time to find a little more mindfulness and peace which is much sought after in my life right now.
2020 promises to be a year full of big changes and new adventures which is both exciting and a little daunting. But I’m surrounded by so many people that love and support me, I know I’m up for it. Happy New Year’s, my friends! And Happy Monday!
Tell me one of your best memories of 2019!
Other yoga buddies out there? I don’t know nearly as much about it as I want to. Tell me about why you practice.
