The Christmas Carol Classic and Sassafras

Hi guys! Last weekend was the Christmas Carol Classic 1k, 5k, and 10k race. It was a blast! It started out REALLY cold. It was 15 degrees at packet pickup.

I waited in my car to try to preserve a modicum of warmth in my body until it started.

There was a spirit of Christmas in the air as we lined up at the start. The pups were barking with excitement and everyone was jumping up and down ready to start and warm up their toes.

We passed the start and began running around City Park. There were tons of holiday themed outfits. This one wins for sure!

There were Dickens characters singing Christmas carols as we ran by. They were great and so festive!

I rocked my warmest alpaca socks and still had frozen toes for most of the race, but it was worth it to be out with such fun people and soaking up all the frozen beauty.

I finished in 36:41 including picture stops and some walking in icy areas so I’m pretty happy with the time. One of my favorite parts about the race is that it ran right along the perimeter of the Denver Zoo. I even walked right past the back of the polar bear barn I used to intern in on the way to the start line. I could hear the sea lions vocalizing throughout the race and it made me smile so big. We celebrated with hot chocolate and some Santa selfies.

Then I boogied back to my car to warm up and make my way over to meet my friend, Nicole, at Sassafras for some brunch.

I had the Cajun Benny which was perfection complete with crab cakes and fried oysters.

All the food was amazing. Mine would have gone great with the Bloody Mary flight our neighbors had.

But we opted for a mimosa carafe. Delish!

I loved it and can’t wait to go back.

We have so many great restaurants in the Capitol Hill area. It is a huge draw for us and we really enjoy being so close to downtown. It’s so fun exploring all the festivals and eateries and unique shops.

There are always opportunities for fun, unique experiences downtown. Stay tuned to hear about my magical night at Union Station playing Harry Potter Clue!

Have a great day, my friends! Tomorrow’s Friday!!

How cold is it where you live?
