Training week 2 recap

Hi there! Week two of half marathon training is over. Time has been flying lately and I can’t believe May is here. The Dog Days Half will be here in no time!

This week was a bit of a struggle. There were a lot of distractions and I felt challenged by fatigue at the end of the day. I do most of my runs at night. I’ve tried running early, but the snooze button and me are old buddies and I’ve never successfully made a habit of running early. Zookeeping is hard work and a roughly 3 hour commute everyday often leaves me physically and mentally drained. I always try to remind myself that there are so many people out there busier than I am that are getting their runs in everyday. That said, it’s important to be mindful of how our bodies are feeling and realize real life is busy and messy and sometimes you need to cut yourself a break. I missed two runs last week including my longest run. But I found time to work on other aspects of my life and gave my body a rest when I was feeling pretty emotionally exhausted. Luckily, I came out on the other side of the weekend feeling refreshed and focused and am ready to take on this next week of training! 

Over the weekend, we hit up the Cinco de Mayo festival downtown. 

It was a beautiful day and there were a ton of people out and about. I loved all the carnival rides, but wasn’t brave enough to go on any. 

Some of these lowriders were pretty tricked out.

We had fun soaking up the festive atmosphere and left right before it began to rain.
