Foam rolling & a pasta salad recipe

Happy Saturday!! How is your weekend going? Today started off with a 3 mile run on the treadmill. 


This is what your face looks like when you start your run too late in the morning and it feels like 100 degrees when you’re finished. 


When you’re shoes are orange and blue, it’s perfectly acceptable to wear both colored socks. It’s like I’m a super-matcher or something.


Afterwards, I got down with some foam rolling. I love my foam roller and use it to work out any tightness I might be feeling. It can hurt while you’re using it, but it’s so worth it. 


I try to roll out my calves a ton because they get super sore sometimes, but you can roll pretty much any muscle that’s bothering you. Check out this video by Janae that gives you some more ideas and information about foam rolling. 

After my run, I swung by the Goodwill to pick up some new work pants. As you can imagine, zookeepers are pretty hard on their pants and I’m pretty much down to one usable pair. I love buying clothes from thrift shops and donation centers. It’s like a fashionable form of recycling and I was pretty stoked when I left with three new pairs of pants for less than $10.

I also scored a couple of extra fun things.


After some grocery shopping it was already time to get dinner prepped. I made my favorite Southwest Pasta Salad and can’t wait to dig into it tonight.


Now I am by no means a food blogger. I am not an avid chef, but do enjoy cooking and baking most of the time. I am also really bad at measuring things so this isn’t the most exact recipe ever. This recipe is super easy and versatile and you can really add whatever foods you like and have on hand. 

Southwest Pasta Salad

– 1 green bell pepper and 1 red bell pepper, diced 

– 1 tomato, diced

–  1 small jar marinated artichokes, sliced into bite sized pieces

– 1 box of multicolored pasta (prepare according to directions) 

– 1 can of roasted corn (drained)

– 1 can black beans (drained and rinsed)

– 1 can Rotel

– about 1/3 of a jar of your favorite salsa

– about 1/3 of a bottle of Italian dressing

– 2 big handfuls of Mexican shredded cheese

-Salt, pepper, cumin, chili powder, and garlic salt to taste. 

Directions: mix everything together and let sit covered in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to let the flavors come together. Serve cold with corn bread muffins. 

We love this brightly colored salad on a warm day and it makes a ton so it’s nice to have for leftovers during the week.

  1. First, let me just say that your puppy is too cute. Now I have puppy fever and need a puppy in my life. Lol

    I tend to foam roll only when I’m really tight and should probably foam roll more often than I do.
